it just made me smile

While searching for a particularly interesting collection in London Fashion Week, I stumbled across Louise Gray's show, who, quite frankly I had never even heard of before.
Louise Gray Fall 2010 Ready-to-WearLouise Gray Fall 2010 Ready-to-WearLouise Gray Fall 2010 Ready-to-Wear

I found it to be tremendously whimsical and, well a bit random in a sense, but I liked it. Perhaps it was the sloppy way that it all came together, or the obvious creativity that went into it, or the fushia gorilla suit. Tons of color as well, which is always nice.

I now realize that I have been saying this post in my head in a British accent. This is what happens when I look at London Fashion Week, and darling, I find it to be smashing.

a modern mia farrow type- thing.

MUAHAHAHAHA!!! Don't you just love it??? I do. I also understand that I got a haircut a little more than a month ago, and my behavior is a tad erratic, but you know what, I don't really care.

It's going to be soooooooo simple to work with in the morning! Just a little styling gel, and I'm good! I doubt that it even needs to be blow- dried.

Another plus is that now get away with more make-up. This is good, as I have recently acquired some funky (oh yes, I said funky) shades of eye shadow. See the purple in the photo? That's only the beginning...

THE INSPIRATION:

Carey Mulligan. I saw her haircut on Vanity Fair, and I instantly fell in love with it. It's rather boyish, but it's also very soft and pretty. I look forward to wearing it with more spring clothes, but as it snowed maybe 2 feet this weekend, I think that I'm going to have to hold out on that for awhile.

the devil wears pucci

That's my dad's car, and, if you didn't notice, I cleverly placed my mother's Pucci snow boots on top of it. My dad probably won't be incredibly pleased that I touched his precious MG, or whatever it's called, but I'll deal with that at a later date. I know, my photography skills are so marvelous.

Close up. My mom wears these, literally while trudging through the knee-deep snow. I feel that they deserve a tad more respect, but I guess the thought isn't mutual. I love the print, but that's to be expected, as Pucci's prints are legend.

I would also like to note the comfort aspect of these. They have (I'm forgetting the actual word for this, so I'm just going to say fuzzy) a fuzzy inside, not totally unlike ehem, those ugly Uggs. I don't want to compare these boots to Ugglies though. Simply not fair.

my wedding dress

I want to get married now just so that I can wear this Marchesa spring 2010 dress.

Marchesa Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear
I almost feel like it it two dresses morphed together, but it works magnificently. The top is simple, elegant, and sheer. I am captivated by the way that the top has those nice little cap sleeves of what looks like lace. I also like the way that it really only covers what is necessary with the strips of fabric, and how it makes up its own neckline. How very unique.

The bottom is so hugely voluminous and flower-like. The skirt reminds me of a white rose, which is quite appropriate for a wedding dress when you think about it. I'm even okay with the way that the top and the bottom don't have a fluid connection, because it makes it so much more architectural and sculpted.

I will wear this dress on my wear this on my wedding day, when I marry Robert Pattinson in that cobblestone village in France that seems so romantic. I will. You watch.

untitled, for lack of a catchy and suiting phrase

My topic of interest today is Chloe. Chloe, Chloe, Chloe, Chloe. Please excuse my lack of accent over the "e," I haven't quite figured out how to do that yet, but I'm sure that you can use your imaginations on this one.

It's not the recent collection that I am so infatuated with, but the spring 2010. I've been looking at more of this season than the winter 2010 ones, just because I'm sick of winter and pretty spring clothes make me feel better. We all deal with weather differently, my way just happens to be staring at collection after collection on the computer until I feel catatonic with longing. Perhaps it's a bit self destructive, but I like it.

Annnywho, I present to you my obsession...

Chloé Spring 2010 Ready-to-WearChloé Spring 2010 Ready-to-WearChloé Spring 2010 Ready-to-WearChloé Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear

The color scheme calms me down sooooo much. I love it. Greens, beiges, browns, DONE!!! I don't need anymore colors after that. No more. I am perfectly fine staying monochromatic, thank you.

I love superbly military minimalistic attitude in these clothes. There's no fluff. I also am extremely attracted to how contrasted it can be, like the all the way buttoned up oxford with the teensy- tiny shorts. Like they are disobeying a dress code at the navel base or something. I don't think they wear green in navel bases though. Or do they? I was under the impression that it was a sort of blue. Something to try to ask someone, but I'll probably forget anyway, so never mind.

I also think that the socks must be mentioned to do justice to them. I LOVE SOCKS. I also like socks and sandals in this case. However, they skeeve me out when you see them on overweight men on the beach in New Jersey. There's a fine line there.

THE STORE TURNS ME INTO A MONSTER!!!

I had told myself that I wasn't allowed to buy anything until I got enough money to buy a Chanel bag on eBay, which I have been lusting over, but of course, I spent all the money in my wallet ($20, I fail) at Anthropology today. Every single time I go into that store I end up falling love with something and buying it. The store is my vice. When will I learn??? Never, by the looks of things.

So this is what I spent all my money on. It was a pretty good deal, actually, considering it was originally $150. I love a deal. You can't really see it properly because I'm feeling pretty lazy and didn't feel like trying it on.

It's a jumpsuit, if you can't tell, and I've been wanting ones since last summer, but then I ended up with a pathetic romper that will now be used as a cover-up over bathing suits. I will have to hem this though, due to my apparent lack of height.

I love the print, and how it reminds me so much of a business suit because of the buttons, but it isn't really like one at all. It's not as stuffy and uncomfortable looking though, the fabric is super soft.

I love little details like buttons, because they bring the look together and give it more presence. To me, it shows that the designer really thought about it, and it shows. The little details make a huge difference to me. So huge that I took the time to hit the "bold face" button. That's huge.

sorry, i lied

I said that I wasn't going to complain about how I missed Fashion Week again. I lied. I was looking through Naeem Khan, who was specifically on my list of
shows I wanted to get into, and I am now just green with envy.

Naeem Khan Fall 2010 Ready-to-Wear

Me likey longtime. It's just metallics over black, so edgy, yet the skirt reminds me of tiling you often see in bathrooms, but not in a bad way. Beading is so attractively elegant and classic. I also love how he packed on big, heavy gold necklaces that don't follow those stupid matching metal rules over the basically all silver look.

I like to see people defy those rules, (i.e. stripes with plaid) because otherwise we would be stuck in such a boring society. I Hate boring with a capital H.

My last gripe about missing fashion week, I think.

This is what I had planned to wear to Fashion Week, but as it clearly didn't happen this season, I wore it to school today.

Irish sweater, no name scarf, Banana Republic skirt worn as dress, Anthropology tights, Tods boots.

I was going for a woodland-y vibe from this, and it was worn to keep me, ehem, warm in New York so that I wouldn't have to wear a big, unattractive coat. It was supposed to be worn with my Russian hat, (shown below with a crepe in Canada) but school doesn't allow it... How I hate this rule...

So the tights were my mom's, but they were too short for her, so I got them. The benefits of being short.

gorgeous, smashing, marvelous, and other adjectives of that sort

Today was a bad day for me. I had really, truly hoped that I would be able to get into Fashion Week today, and of course, it didn't happen. Right now I'm sulking like a toddler who didn't get any candy. I probably could be a bit more mature about it, but I don't feel like it.

What was worse was that I had memorized the show schedule for today, so at random intervals during the day, I would say, Milly is starting now... they're probably getting seated for Michael Kors about now... I bet Nanette Lepore is starting soon.... No one else had any idea what I was talking about, so it was rather like I was talking to myself.

So here is what I missed today from Nanette Lepore.

3

It looks so warm. I love the fake see- through lace top, because it's so elegant yet, it's a shirt, so it's casual. I'm getting a Scottish vibe from both the skirt and bag. I want to see this on a six foot tall redhead holding hands with an even bigger Scottish redhead with bagpipes. I think I'm probably feeling a little dramatic today. The way that just a little bit of the tule sticks out from the dress is marvelous. It makes that plaid more feminine.
5

This feels medieval to me for some reason, in a really, really, good way. I think that it probably is the red velvet tunic, and the way it is belted in the middle. I think that the long pendant and the boots are a part of this too. The long, tweed coat is so full of all these warm colors that just make me feel happy. I like the shoulder pads too, as it makes it that much more knight-ish.
1718

I LOVE VELVET. The draping and texture of the fabric is so lux and sophisticated. I like the way that it flows down, and how it has different lengths. The combination of the fabric and the draping is like a waterfall, so soft and flowing.

I'm feeling terribly left out of the fashion world right now, so I think I'll go and sit with my face to the wall, wallowing in self pity. Or will I act my age and get over it? Probably not.

i wonder how they sleep at night

I have been perusing the fashion shows from this week, and I am greatly disappointed to see that some of the designers I had huge respect for have been using fur in their designs.

When designers use fur, it just kills me, because they are supporting a cause that is so evil. I hope that they think about the thousands of animals who will lose their lives so that they can be put on a piece of clothing that will be worn maybe once. What gives them the right to brutally slaughter and torture animals that could have a life, just so they can have their fur walk down a runway to better their career? I wonder if they think about the countless mink, foxes, raccoons, and chinchillas that are brutally electrocuted to death by their hand. I have lost a great amount of respect for these fur-using designers.

People are the other problem. This is a woman that we photographed while in Canada. That is a dead, stuffed raccoon on her head, along with the rest of its fur on her hat. I am disgusted with people at this point. Fur is such a symbol of wealth and extravagance that I think people find it more attractive, when, in fact, it is as ugly as a dead raccoon strapped to your head. Perhaps these wealthy people think that they have the right to take the lives of all these animals, because they have money and power, and that their fur will make others respect them more. Well, it's had the opposite affect on me. It took all my willpower not to spit on this woman.

R.I.P.

I didn't get to write anything this week because I was in Canada, and luckily enough, there was no internet access, so no writing for me. We were in Mont Tremblant, and it was gorgeous, but I don't want to talk about that now.

My grandmother dearest saved me all of the newspaper coverage of Fashion Week, because I was totally out of the loop in Canada. I was sifting through it when I saw an article about Alexander McQueen. For those of you who don't know, he committed suicide.

Alexander McQueen Fall 2007 Ready-to-Wear

He was responsible for some of the most mind blowing designs that just took my breath away. What he did was so perfect and beautiful, it made you question all things that could be done in fashion, because no one else ever has been able to create anything like it. His work gave people who appreciated it an insight into the mind of a genius, and what really could be produced by humans. After looking at some of his collections, particularly his last one, I was inspired just by looking at it from the computer screen. I wish he could've stayed with us longer, so that we could have a bit more of his artistic vision, but what we do have from him is incredible, and I just feel lucky to be able to have seen his work in one form or another.

AB FAB

Last night, after learning that school would be canceled, I was watching re-runs of the British TV show, Absolutely Fabulous. At first, I thought that it was a work out tape, because of the way it's abbreviated, AB FAB.

For those of you who aren't aware of the 90's show, it's about Edina and Patsy, two 40-ish women who are incredibly over the top dramatic and fabulous. I thought they were incredibly fashionable. They enjoy drinking and smoking quite a bit, as well. I only got to watch the first three episodes though, because it was too chick-y for my brother.

Quotes I found amusing...

Edina-I mean what you two seem to understand is that inside of me, inside of me, there is a thin person just screaming to get out!
Mother- Just the one dear?

Saffy- You've been getting dressed for three hours and you still look like a bloated citrus fruit!

I tried to find pictures of some of their outfits, but I turned up pretty unsuccessful, which is upsetting, because a lot of them were absolutely fabulous. Perhaps I'll try again tomorrow... I think that I will watch the rest of the season tonight, anyway.

If we can manage it through the snow tomorrow, we are going to Canada tomorrow at five or six in the morning. The drive is supposed to take 8-10 hours. Not happy. I think that I'll just pass the time learning more French on my tapes. I named the voices Jacque and Fleur,(after Fleur Delacor, yes). I can now say basic sentences. Kinda.

I think that I'll also try to check out style.com to see if they maybe have the footage from the shows at Fashion Week tomorrow. I'm so excited that it's starting, and I think that I may be able to see one on Wednesday if I'm lucky and my dad can make it happen.

Au revior!

i apologize, Karl

I was packing for Canada today, because we're going there Thursday. I rented basic French learning tapes from the library so that when we go I will be able to communicate and fulfill my lifelong dream of being French. (kinda)

So I was joking with my... ehm, less knowledgeable in fashion friend, telling her that I was learning French so that I could be able to talk to Karl, as in Lagerfeld. SHE DOESN"T KNOW WHO HE IS!!! DO YOU SEE THE MADNESS OF MY LIFE!!! MADNESS I I TELL YOU, MADNESS!!!

Karl Lagerfeld I'm sorry Karl.

I know that somehow, Karl's spidey senses are tingling, telling him that somewhere, there is someone who doesn't know about him, and he is deeply offended. So, I thought perhaps I would just show some of my favorite works of his, because that will make Karl feel better. No one wants a cranky Karl.

mia wasikowska

Mia Wasikowska
(photos from teenvohue.com) I LOVE LACE! It's in the form of a Jill Stuart dress, and I want it.

Below, I like how this Dior dress is cut out in the back, it makes me feel warmer, as the temperature has increased by much in February.
Mia Wasikowska

Mia Wasikowska. She was on the cover of Teen Vogue this month, and I found that she has a feature in W Magazine too. She is an Australian actress who will be playing Alice in the Alice in Wonderland movie coming out soon.

I really, really, really love her hair. I think that it looks marvelous with both bare shoulders and huge 80's shoulder pads. It can be a very diverse look. I also think that even though it's a tad boyish, when you wear dresses, it makes her look almost more feminine. Interesting.

I think that I want to get my hair cut like this for the summer. Of course, I would have to keep my bangs due to my rather unattractively big 5-head. Then again, I tend to act rather erratically when it comes to my hair, but I honestly do like this style. It looks very artsy, and since I'm going to Parsons this summer for fashion design camp,(I'M SO EXCITED) I think it'll fit the bill.

something for me to ponder at late at night...

An injustice was recently brought to my attention. Well, I guess it isn't an injustice, per say, but I am offended as a fashion week lover. My mom cut out an article in the New York Daily News paper about how some celebrities are paid up to $100K by designers to sit in the front rows of their shows. Yes, I know, confusing.

The designers... pay.... celebrities... to sit at their shows... but not the other way around?...
(my train of thought, above)

I suppose I understand. They want them there so that their clothes look more appreciated by more important people, and so they become more popular.

However, I'm upset about this revelation because the celebrities are the ones who can pay to see the shows, so maybe the designers should just let less fortunate people sit in the front row instead! (ex. me.)

I also learned that Lady Gaga won't be taking any money for going to shows, which increases my respect for her greatly. I find her amusing, just because she's the only one who would go to the Grammy's dressed like... well, that.

FASHION WEEK

Fashion Week is next week!!! Guess where I'm going to be? Canada. CANADA. Not that I don't want to go to Canada, I just want to go another week, so that I don't miss out on so much! I may not even be able to see anything, though, if my dad doesn't ask around. Last time he got me into Nanette Lepore because of work connections. I also saw Alexander Wang, but that was because it took place at my dad's work.

MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION WEEK BRINGS EXCITEMENT, GLAMOUR AND FEELINGS TO US ALL. Patricia Fields, Costume Designer
(www.mbfashionweek.com)

Fashion Week DOES bring feelings of happiness to me too, Patricia Field.

So, being the obsessor that I am, I checked out all of the shows that I possible could see, given the opportunity and help from my dad. These are my favorites, which will probably be too full to hold me anyway...

2/16/10

7:00- Tibi

2/17/10
9:00 - Tory Burch
11:00- Nanette Lepore

6:00- Anna Sui

Those are just my personal preferences, really though, I would kill to get into any. I WANT TO GO SO BADLY!!!

the secret garden

I was on style.com looking for some interesting floral dresses,(I'm so cool that I do that in my spare time) because it is so dreary that I can barely stand myself, and that would cheer me up. Silly me, I thought that it would be getting warmer soon because of the 50 degree weather last week, but it snowed. Again.

So anyway, the dresses. I ended up falling in love with the Balenciaga spring 2008 ready to wear show. The entire collection is comprised of these dresses and skirts in every color and print imaginable, and some that aren't.

I apologize for the picture overload, but I just couldn't manage to contain myself.

Balenciaga Spring 2008 Ready-to-WearBalenciaga Spring 2008 Ready-to-WearBalenciaga Spring 2008 Ready-to-Wear

Ahhh. I'm having difficulty expressing my love for these, because I can't seem to find words. They have the most amazing prints, they make me feel like I'm IN a flower garden in Brussels or something. Like the Secret Garden. Was that in England? I'm not sure.

The impeccable structure and tailoring on them makes it appear that they could carry themselves. Even the shape of them reminds me of flowers.
.
Balenciaga Spring 2008 Ready-to-WearBalenciaga Spring 2008 Ready-to-WearBalenciaga Spring 2008 Ready-to-WearBalenciaga Spring 2008 Ready-to-Wear

I'm not really sure why, but I get an oriental feel from these. I think that it may be the structure, or the shoulders. I LOVE THE SHOULDERS!!! They aren't just padded, the defy gravity, which is pretty intense if you ask me. I also find the length of these quite attractive, even though they are almost scary short, because the volume can make up for it. They definitely don't come off as scanky.

Balenciaga Spring 2008 Ready-to-Wear

POM POMS!!!! OVERSIZED POM POMS!!!! These make me want to be a cheerleader, just so I could steal some extra pom poms and attach them to the shoulders of my dresses. But then, I would have to be a cheerleader, which simply would not work.

Balenciaga Spring 2008 Ready-to-WearBalenciaga Spring 2008 Ready-to-Wear

These just make me happy, simple as that. They are so outwardly conservative, yet intriguing. It looks as though there may or may not be some crinkle- like texture to it, but as I have only a picture, it's hard to tell if that's not just the fabric.
