Little Recap

Sorry, those few of you who may be reading me, for my lack of posts last week. My internet died, and I was having computer-related meltdowns everyday. So sorry to keep you waiting, whoever you are. Anyone? Is there anyone there?

So that was my outfit Friday. I recently was given maybe six pairs of brightly colored tights and I honestly can't think of a time I've been more excited to look like I have crayons for legs. Then, my dreams were crushed because I heard it was supposed to be ninety degrees today and I thought I'd never get to wear them. But, the devil prevailed again, and the heat never rose over 45. It's like I'm being teased by nature. And nature's really good at pushing my buttons.

Michelle Smith must also enjoy crayons. It reminded me rather literally of Milly's winter show, but I hadn't consciously been inspired by it or anything. Must've been some weird sort of connection I made sub-conciously in my head. I wonder what other ideas I'm retaining but not aware of? A lot, probably, but none of them are of much use.

ALEXANDER WANG FOR LINDA FARROW CAT GLASSES

Feast your eyes on them. They are super-chic in a weird sort of awesome Cat-Woman superhero type way. They could also double as a disguise from the bad guys, and to keep your identity hidden from the general public, if you are that secret-identity-type hero.
Then again, I think that they would be just as helpful to the villians. Was Cat Woman a villain? Villains are so much cooler than superheros, they can so whatever the heck they want and they don't have to worry about if the general public agrees with them. The heros are always being shunned and stuff from society because they don't so such a good job all the time. The bad guys have so much less pressure, I want to be one of them. I'd strike fear into the hearts of all people! Annnnnd I'd have those glasses. The very thought must have you shaking in your boots.

new york state of mind

I miss the city. I know I was there just yesterday and I should be happy I went at all, but I'm greedy. It's so different there. Even though it was raining, there were still hoards of people outside- trudging through the puddles with their chic little clear umbrellas going about business as usual. It may be dark and wet and depressing, but they have a different state of mind than those in suburbia, there is still tons of energy, even on bleak days like these. Yeah, we don't work that way in Ridgefield. Everyone rushes to the Stop and Shop before it rains and loads up on food before the rain, because they somehow suspect that a little rain will stop them from coming back tomorrow, and their families will be starved. We all tend to hole up in our houses and drink decaffeinated tea all afternoon (as caffeinated will stunt my growth) because we cancelled all plans. And even if we decided to go out, a) there is nothing here to do, since we have maybe 30 stores in total and b) there is no one to do nothing with, since it's a ghost town.

You see my position? I miss the city, and I'm in the mood to complain.

There is, however, one thing I couldn't dream of moaning about today. Imagine my surprise when I came home to find the EXACT pair of oxfords that I have been dreaming about laying on my bed. At first, I thought it to be a mirage, how could something so dreamily perfect be in my possession? Well, they are, and I've been wearing them around the house ever since finding them.

They're Ralph Lauren, and have the exact scholarly feeling I have been yearning for. You can see through the sides, which is interesting, and they also have those intricate hole leather details that remind me of older men's loafers. I will wear them with everythin
g, and I mean it.

I'm off to do a sun dance now...

MOOD FABRICS

March is miserable, there are ZERO days off school and the weather is so weirdly in-between winter, spring, and summer. I needed a day off. Today, I uh, took a mental health day and went to the city. It rained. Figures.

We went to Mood Fabrics, which I have been dying to go to ever since I started watching Project Runway and began to sew.

Let me set the scene, because it is just so dramatic and glamourous.
Mood is in a really old building, and it is on the third floor. In the elevator, there is some guy in a doorman's suit who has to physically stop it and open the doors.

When you actually walk in, it's surreal, at least for a nerd like me. It is just aisle after aisle after aisle of fabrics. There were three floors, and the walls of yards of fabric were two times taller than me. I was, to be cliche, like a kid in a candy shop, meandering around, and making sure to touch absolutely every fabric that I come near.

I was beside myself, there was way too much beautiful fabric for me to get my head around.

They also had, like, three walls of buttons and and ENTIRE corner devoted entirely to trims. I died. Just died.

I didn't buy anything, since I had no real, vision or anything for a garment, but I did debate for maybe a half hour about whether or not to get some of that crazily soft jersey.

The people in the store were inspiring by themselves. There was this one, maybe 70ish man walking around in skinny jeans, a leather jacket, and black Doc Martins. We don't have people like that in Ridgefield, they would be shunned from our boring society or something.

evening wear when it's not evening?

This month's Harper's Bazaar has an interesting article about how recently, evening wear has not been restricted to evening. For example, sequins in the morning? Honestly, I've never thought about this, as I am 13, have no life, so I don't ever have anywhere to go to at night. So, I guess I am guilty of this too, because if I didn't wear my fancy shmancy clothes during the day, I would have no where to wear them!

Emma Watson spotted before 6:00 pm.

I also suppose that his new movement of evening in the morning will help the working woman move from day to evening more efficiently, as it doesn't require them to go home and change, but it does make you question what will evolve from this. Will there be Marchesa gowns in Starbucks next? Chanel in the office? Galliano at school? Who knows.

pretty flowers

I've been looking for something to match my current state of mind. At first, I thought, maybe those cat eyeglasses, because my current state of mind is a little kooky right now. Well, actually I just want to get out of school for the summer (61 days!) so I can go to Parsons, but I suppose I'm a little ahead of myself. I did get a letter from them the other day, giving me my classroom number and ID card. I'm freaking out a little. A lot. Cannot wait any longer before imploding! Not exploding, but imploding, as I will erupt from the inside out with all my excitedness. I'm watching Project Runway tonight though, so I can be there in spirit, I suppose.

Keeping Parsons in mind, I was beginning to think of outfits I could wear there, they must be in the ultimate of fierceness. I mean, what if they are taping a new season of Project Runway and I see them wearing something stupid??? What would Michael say? No, he probably wouldn't note my existence, he's too fabulous, but anyway, someone might, and I don't care to look like a moron.

To end my ramblings, I really enjoy Erdem's spring collection. Florals are really appealing to me lately, perhaps because I am willing summer to come, even though we're just getting into spring.

Erdem Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear

Endearing little jumper, you agree? Please do me a favor and say that in a British accent. I kept me amused for like ten minutes. The colors are happy. They have emotions, and if you could see their little flowery faces closely right now they would just be beaming. I guess they're always beaming though, because they are stuck in that one print for eternity. Imagine, being happy for eternity! Very cheerful flowers.

Erdem Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear

Lovely texture. Also, please note the platform heels in what appears to be the same print. There was a time when I thought that platforms were restricted to strippers and people of that sort, but this year, my aversion to them has been replaced with a strong like. I now find myself drawn to them, especially pretty flowery ones with a Mary Jane feel about them with the strap. Agreed?

slightly dumbfounded

Sorry, my internet has been messed up for a few days, so I couldn't post anything without getting infuriated. But before I will talk about some sort of clothing infatuation I'm having, I would like to take a brief moment to revel in the weather. SUN, there is. This weekend it was full- on winter weather, and now, it's almost 65, I think. This makes me happy and joyful and annoying because I am best at finding bad adjectives and these are all good ones. This concludes my weather comments for the day.

I'm not sure if this comes as a shock to anyone else, or if I just have my head buried so far underground that I haven't heard, but Tory Burch isn't an actual designer. She's more of a stylist, and she has "ideas" that she passes on to her design team, and they come up with the collection. Bothered? I am. I don't know why exactly, maybe it's because I feel like the designer is where all the talent lies, but I don't respect her as much as I used to.

Of course, she never claimed to be a designer, so it's not like I can call her a liar or anything. And I guess she is the brains behind the ascetic of the line, but you know, it just bothers me that those pieces of clothing that millions slave over didn't technically come from her. Is it weird to say that I feel like the designs don't have as much integrity in my mind, now that I know that they came from a design team rather than the woman who takes credit and fame?

Probably.

Liberty of London for Target

Rodarte for Target has officially left, and now it's Liberty of London taking over the store. I was supposed to go there to see it today, but it didn't happen... There are tons and tons and tons of bright, floral prints in both the clothing and the home stuff. Very spring/summer, very happy.

I would have photos, but the site is so crowded that it's too slow and I am too impatient to deal with that.

My favorite so far is the bike. It's actually rather inexpensive, but I'm that type of person who buys that sort of thing, rides it once, and then never looks at it again. Well, no, that's not true, I would look at it a lot, it's so gorgeous, but I'd never ride it, because I'd be afraid of making it dirty. Pitiful, I know.

i'm sorry for my little blast from the past

I have to talk about this even though it is so very old. I was reading W Magazines from 2006, and I saw this collection from Alexander McQueen, the Widows of Culloden collection. It gives me goosebumps.

However, I can't figure out how to paste a video onto here because I am technologically challenged, so you have to go to this link to see it. Please do.
http://alexandermcqueen.com/int/en/corporate/archive2006_aw_womens.aspx

Goodness! Where to begin???? First of all, I would like to make note of the miraculous headdresses of feathers. They remind me of the scene in Harry Potter 3, where Neville's boggart turns into Snape wearing his grandmother's clothing, because there is always a Harry Potter reference for everything.

They are very Victorian-inspired, I can tell. They have those high collars, thick ,heavy fabrics, but incredible elegance. And ruffles. He also went back to his Scottish roots with all the tartan skirts, dresses and kilts. I can find nothing that is negative to say about this.

And my favorites:

Speechless. There is such an incredible elegance about all these women, even though one of them has a veil hanging around her face, held up by branches.

I wish he hadn't died, there was so much more for us to see from him.

fuzzy wuzzy was a bear...

At first I thought Chanel must have killed hundreds of mink, just to put together this show, but then, to my delight, I learned that it was FAKE!!!! I didn't think I read it right, i mean, fake fur at Chanel? Is this even possible? Has some PETA following wizard confunded Karl into this? I will never know. BUT, I do love this new development, as many animals will not be killed in the name of fashion because of it.

So all in all, I liked most of this collection, but bits had me staring at the screen unable to decide what was going on, and my opinion.

I liked these. Clearly, they are like the cold-weather twin of the classic Chanel, tweed and all. It looks warm, even for walking through strategically placed glaciers. Especially the boots. Nice clothes that actually keep you warm? Unheard of.

The looks that confused me, above. I'm sorry, I don't like furry pants. They remind me of bears, which are scary and not fun to have hanging from your clothes.

My like moments. I LOVE THE BOOTS. White shoes after Labor Day, it appears. My favorite is the top one, very classic with a twist.

Chanel Fall 2010 Ready-to-Wear

My love moment. I always love their wedding dresses, and this one is really just like snow. If I were getting married in the winter, it would be my first choice. (The Marchesa is my spring choice.) Then again, I'm not really close to getting married, so, this is rather pointless.

favorite ads. ever.

OK. I love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love every single one of Marc Jacobs ads. I have piles of them that I have ripped out of magazines scattered all over my room.

The photos here are pictures of the ads I have all over my room, since I couldn't manage to find pictures of them online. That is why they are so dull and weirdly lighted in some places. I also only photographed a few ads in my collection, because it's hard to take photos of paper.

They are so very odd, yet artistic, with some serious personality. They show a point of view, maybe Marc's, maybe the photographer's, not sure.

These models are like really affluent nomads that the photographer accidentally stumbled across in the desert.

Green-haired girl is my favorite so far. She has some attitude, and in the one directly above, it looks like someone just said something insulting to her. I like it.

this is so totally not fashion related but i have to share it anyway

Yesterday was my brother, Edwin's birthday, and because he loves that TLC show, Cake Boss, we drove all the way to Hoboken to get him a cake. Cake Boss is also a fetish of mine, so I was equally excited. I mean, they make the most delicious looking cakes on TV! But I was really hoping for was that they would just leave out scraps of the modeling chocolate and fondant as samples. Don't you agree that they are always wasting the extra ingredients when they're making a cake? I would give my left big toe for a piece of their modeling chocolate that they throw out!

We forgot, however, that the Irish are currently in their St. Patty's Day celebration mode, and so the entire city was clogged up with drunken morons wearing green feather boas. The bakery was equally full of them.

IT"S MAGDELENA!!!! I SAW HER!!! I WAS MAYBE TWO FEET AWAY FROM HER!!! I'm still in disbelief. She was really nice, actually. Edwin knocked over all their business cards, and she didn't yell at him. We also saw Mary and Buddy's mom, but they were moving around too fast to take a proper picture. I had really been hoping to see Buddy, but he was nowhere to be found.

That was Edwin's cake. Please note the past tense. Edwin could barely wait for me to take the photo before digging into it. I had a piece too, and I've never had anything so perfect. I don't even like that kind of cake, but it was soooooooooooooo good.

oh, how i wish i was in attendance for this show

Balmain Fall 2010 Ready-to-Wear

I like Balmain. I also like how Christophe Decarnin has his ascetic that he sticks by. He clearly likes this rocker- girl thing, and it doesn't matter what season he's in, he's going to show that point of view, which is delightful. It works for him, the label, and obviously the thousands of people who relish in his designs. Often, you see designers just go all willy-nilly with their inspirations, and often, there is a disconnect between seasons, and you wouldn't know by looking at it who designed it. I suppose this isn't a bad thing though, because it keeps you on your toes, and you aren't exactly sure what is going to come from them. But, I like knowing that Balmain is going to be the rocker-chick every season, even though the woman he designs for may change. I felt like spring 2010 was more for the band groupie, all ragged, yet chic, and this season is pushed towards a more sophisticated, perhaps older woman, who still has that edge.

continuing my earlier Ralph Lauren spiel

I forgot how much I truly love the collection. Yesterday, all I wanted to talk about was the denim aspect, I have since moved on, and would now care to give my opinion on the dresses.

Ralph Lauren Spring 2010 Ready-to-WearRalph Lauren Spring 2010 Ready-to-WearRalph Lauren Spring 2010 Ready-to-WearRalph Lauren Spring 2010 Ready-to-WearRalph Lauren Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear

So very theatrical. The prints are prairie- like and I really see them on a farm, like in that movie, Sarah Plain and Tall, that we had to watch in maybe fourth grade. The movie was dreadful, but the clothes remind me of the era and the people. Also, the bandanas. I love the bandanas. The news boy caps and oxfords provide the contrast, and voila! a magical collection.
