W Won't Ever Be Quite the Same

Some Paranoia?

I like Free People... except that it's rather mainstream now. Mainstream makes me break out into hives. Well, I'm not really that affected, but I don't like it. Oh, so I was talking about this top. I bought it (well actually my mother spent the money, but she owed me, so) yesterday and I'm excited to wear it with a blazer-- preferably navy blue.

Um, it doesn't look quite as gorgeous on me because I am not, nor will I ever be the 6'2 model here. I also don't really care to be suctioned into my clothes so mine is considerably looser. I'm a nit picker, especially when it comes to clothes, as you may be able to tell.

And... um... HELLO!!!! PARSONS IS IN A MONTH!!!! BY GOLLY, I'M EXCITED!!!! I still need to get my supplies list and such, because I've been having nightmares where Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum call me a failure because I show up with only a pencil and without my shoes. And then Michael Kors starts making snarky remarks in that high pitched voice of his -while Nina shoots me a dirty look in the corner. I end up crying on the runway. I know that the entire scenario is absolutely crazy, but still, the thought of Michael Kors calling me a mess is a very scary thought indeed.

Dior to Adore

John Galliano typically makes me a very happy girl. His resort collection this year is no exception. It is a gorgeous blend of extreme femininity and the late 50's - early 60's glamour that I so adore. It also incorporates more of the masculine side of things... but I won't even touch upon that. This is simply because I desperately dreaming of dresses (unintentional alliteration.. I did learn something this year!) and I can't even stand to think of wearing anything else in this heat.

Christian Dior Resort 2011

I am reminded vividly of the proud wife and homemaker of the fifties. All frills, lipstick, and sensible heels, perfect combination. I wish I lived in that era.

If I were to add something to this outfit it would be a large pink poodle patch. Don't ask me why or where, it just has to be there.

Christian Dior Resort 2011

If I were to be so cliché I would say that this picture here is worth a description of a thousand words... but why would I ever say that? When I can simply call it elegant and romantic and sophisticated and beautiful... I wish I wore it to 8th grade graduation.

Christian Dior Resort 2011

This is very... young, but in a good way, not like baby young, but -- youthful and full of life. It has energy.

Christian Dior Resort 2011

I love it I love it I love it. It is just ladylike and prissy in the best way imaginable.

Christian Dior Resort 2011

When I was watching this show the Spoonful of Sugar song from Mary Poppins was playing in my head, perhaps because of the sugary sweetness of many of the looks. Anyway, I can't get it out of my head now and I thought maybe I'd inflict Julie Andrew's voice on some other people!

Alexander Wang Resort Wear

I am ridiculously behind the times and it's aggravating. My computer was... um... taken away, so I haven't had the time to do any of this here blogging! Annnnd, to add insult to injury, resort wear has come out-- and I've BARELY had a chance to look at it! The injustice is seething inside me! And so I must bring it into overdrive to catch up.

You may or may not be aware of my intense love for Alexander Wang. Well, now you are, at least. It is actually more of a nerd-like obsession (similar to those who are addicted to Justin Beiber, althoughI like to think my obsession is a bit more healthy) that began last September at his show, where I was so shocked to be so close to such brilliance that I just about lost my marbles. I could've said something, but I temporarily lost speech. Ever since, I've had photos of him and his collection up in my locker. Be very disturbed.

Ah, the minimalism. Awkward fitting sweaters, leather shorts, socks with sandals. How very perfect.

Alexander Wang Resort 2011

Structured blazers have a soft spot in my heart. To pair them with long johns takes a certain kind of bravery, and I fully respect whoever has the courage to do so. In addition, I really love how he has stayed true to his ascetic with the bag.

Alexander Wang Resort 2011

I so admire how he can turn the reputation of sandals with socks (hairy men on the beach with beer bellies, anyone?) into something chic and desirable.

Pants nipped at the ankle are God's gift to the world. Maybe that was a tad dramatic, but I will stand by it.

I have far more to say in the matter of Resort Wear 2011...so I will be posting again-- tomorrow. That's a promise.

excuses, excuses

I haven't been able to post anything due to a combination of laziness... and yeah, just laziness. But I have these pretty dress photos all the way from Memorial Day that I've been trying unsuccessfully to upload. Eventually, Anna had to do it for me. (Thanks!) I really need to work on my computer skills, because I have absolutely no idea how to do that. It's actually rather funny.

The first one is sideways, but I don't really care because it looks far more interesting than a picture of me standing against a wall in a shop. It was in Butterflies and Zebras, a new shop on Main Street (which, as you may interpret, is the only street with shops in Ridgefield). I liked it because that dress was cute and the people told me I looked pretty- which is more than enough for me to like something.

The dress was kinda awesome because it has a mind of its own. The bottom, as you can see, holds itself up in a whirl of swirls. Hah, my poetic skills amuse even me. I did enjoy it, but I couldn't wear it now because of my ridiculous sunburn-line ( I have the skin of an albino) that is almost in the form of a necklace. Woe is me.

A Molly Ringwald Moment

I'm having an 80's -Molly Ringwald moment right now. I think I'm going to Netfilx The Breakfast Club... right now. Hopefully I'll still be in my little moment when it arrives.

mini ralph? oh, how i wish.

Outfit on... Thursday? Yes, Thursday, because Friday was Harry Potter Dress Up Day. Oh yes. And I kinda really love this outfit, too.

My, I need a pedicure. Gap jean jacket, Ralph Lauren Rugby shirt, (my mother's old) Lucky Brand boyfriend jeans, old stirrup leather for belt, Prada sandals, and drugstore red lipstick.

Ralph Lauren Spring 2010 Ready-to-WearRalph Lauren Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear

I was channeling Ralph Lauren 2010 spring ready to wear, except my feminine twist was in the blouse annnd the shoes. For some reason, and perhaps it's because I fell in radioactive lava, (but then I would be Spiderman), but I have been so into the boyfriend jean and the denim on demim- especially if they are two different washes. It has that classic American appeal that Ralph Lauren always captures so expertly. He is an expert, after all.

SCANDAL ALERT

Just so you are aware, this is going to read a bit like a bad gossip column. I was just, well, intrigued by some articles on one of our favorite designers today. Not Karl, nor John, but Marc. It appears that his love life has fallen to shambles-- or at least that is what is portrayed in the "gatecrasher" article. But then, this was in The Daily News, which I doubt can be trusted for accuracy. Isn't it the very same newspaper that occasionally puts "Mother Spots Martians on Front Porch, Invasion is Expected" on their front page? Or was that a comic book? I can't be sure.

Back to my story.

So it is claimed that Marc's boyfriend, Lorenzo Martone, was caught snogging another man at the birthday party of Wilhelmina CEO Sean Patterson. Incidentally, a man with a girlfriend. As you can imagine, this caused a bit of a ruckus.

So when Marc won the CDFA Award on Monday night, (along with Alexander Wang {yay}) and gave his speech thanking all those who helped him along his way to greatness, Mr. Lorenzo wasn't mentioned. It only makes sense that there is a correlation between the two events, because why else wouldn't he mention the man he's been with for, what, three years?

It appears it's the doghouse for old Lorenzo, and justly so. You don't cheat on the most visionary designer of our age! It's ridiculous! The entire story has yet to be confirmed, but I enjoyed the drama just the same.

Clever Me

After watching a good three hours of Driving Miss Daisy, I returned to my usual Sunday activities, which include, but are not limited to, knitting Ravenclaw scarves, reading, and looking at all the fashion shows I haven't seen thus far on the inter -web. Oh, and I sat on my camera, so it's broken now. It was an eventful day.

It was during the fashion observing that I found something of interest. There was one model that was in every show that I looked at, and I remembered her instantly from the Alexander Wang show I saw all the way in September (which, I often reminisce over, as it is one of the two shows I've seen thus far). She's everywhere, yet I didn't know her name, which would make someone like me feel a bit stupid, because she's clearly a supermodel.

So her name's Hanne Gaby Odiele and as it turns out she's quite famous, and with shows from Marc Jacobs to commercials for Vera Wang. This leaves me feeling far more idiotic than before, but with more answers. If that makes sense.

(That's where I remember her from)

Little Bow Peep

Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear

This week I found I am desperately in need of an obnoxious, oversized bow- Marc Jacobs style, please. Unfortunately all that I have is a rather small Coach headscarf. (I don't even like Coach. It's not a luxury brand to me anymore because it is so common now that it can be found in any mall in America. It has lost it's fashion appeal, but I guess it's good from a business standpoint for them now. There's just no pizzazz when you see their designs on every person on the street.) And that's all I have to say about that.

it took me twenty minutes to learn how to make a hyperlink so you better appreciate it

Whilst reading through Vogue a few weeks ago I came across this- which I am very excited about for no particular reason. Tom Ford is legend in all his Gucci and YSL legacy and lipsticks happen to be a personal favorite. He is designing a line of twelve lipsticks where everything from the colors to the casing is gorgeous. Look at the full collection which I cannot find pictures to paste on this page right here.

They come in colors ranging from Vanilla Suede to Black Orchid, with his initials imprinted on the top of each. The tubes that they come in are elegant and chic to a t. The lipstick tube (I absolutely hate using the word tube to describe these because I feel it is far too informal and that the word doesn't give the lipstick justice. However I cannot find another word for it so...) is made up of a pure white ivory and gold. It has a beautiful old fashioned feel, as it is described as heavy. I simply adore this type of design because it refuses to cave into the demand of society and become thin and light- as all the appliances and glosses are becoming. It gives a more sophisticated impression.

My favorite thing that he said in the Vogue article that isn't mentioned in the condensed one, above, was his opinion of lip glosses. He said, and I quote, "I don't like the motion. Opening a beautiful case and spinning out the bullet is a much more elegant gesture. Lip gloss is kind of the equivalent of chewing gum to me." I must agree, although you can't ignore the connivence of lip glosses.

Lipstick has the refined aura about it that makes the wearer seem, to use the most overused word in fashion, chic. It is subtle, but it dresses you up, as the gloss does the opposite. Tom said it nicely,"When I was a kid, when someone rang the doorbell, my mother would put on lipstick before getting the door. Lipstick makes you look dressed." And so it was in previous generations. I fear that our age lacks that sophistication, as we were brought up on the gloss, and that the elegance will be lost. I am determined not to allow that to happen, so tomorrow I will try to get myself some new lipstick shades, although I think they will be more of the CVS variety.
