I Am Still Shaking

Today was a rather major day for yours truly. I attended Alexander Wang’s fashion show, and before you get some sort of impression that I am well connected, I will tell you that the only reason I got into the show is because my dad manages the building it was held in (Pier 94). I stood, but that’s still beyond marvelous because I was there!

As I don’t have anything from Alexander Wang and it was doubtful anyone would care, I decided to go for a textural bonanza. The peacock feather headband was bought off the street in New York, I spent all my money on that faux- fur jacket from Anthropologie last week, the top is DKNY, I made the shorts, the shoes are Kenzie, and the crocodile bag is vintage.

We saw Andrew from Kell on Earth, the Bravo show about the fashion PR agency. You watched it. At first we (being my mother and I) weren’t sure it was he, but then we saw the hardware bracelets and I knew it was. He is so fabulously Goth and extremely tall. I took this photo from the back (creeper style) before I was sure he was opposed to talking to the common folk. Then I got this picture with him and my mom. He actually is surprisingly nice.

Before the show I also met Alexander Wang’s brother and the CFO of this company. Dennis. He was really polite but I couldn’t talk around him because when I’m nervous I do that, but I did shake his hand.

The show was something. I could see fairly well behind the short people that he is back to deconstruction, there were a lot of cut outs in loose white canvas dresses and pants. Bits of it reminded me of carpenter's clothes, which was helped along by the worker-esqe boots and the 'paint splatter' on both the clothes and in the hair. There were also metallics, and a few sweaters/jackets that made me very pleased. It was far happier than I thought it would be.

I didn't take proper pictures because of my view but here are the ones from the interweb.

I also just about peed myself when I saw that, directly in front of me (in the front row), was The Andre Leon Talley and Grace Coddington. Andre is so much more fabulous in person, and bigger. I swear he was over seven feet tall. Grace has this elegance to her that you can just feel, even fifteen feet away. I got these stalker shots from the back, and then my mother chased Mr. Talley, telling him that he looked gorgeous, and got this picture. I love it.

And then. The unthinkable happened. (If that was unthinkable enough for you) Just as we were walking back from the show, whom did we see but Bradley. FROM THE RACHEAL ZOE PROJECT!!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME, WORLD???? I just about died, right there. He was so so so nice to us. I, of course geeked out and couldn’t speak, except to tell him my name after I remembered, but we took this. He is so gorgeous I cannot even BEGIN to tell you.

And then, like in a movie (I keep replaying it in my head) THE RACHEL ZOE and RODGER walked up and were like “Yeah Brad, you’re so gorgeous,” because I think my mother said that to him, but I’d temporarily lost my hearing, so I’m not sure. She was wearing a baggy, navy blue jumpsuit and berry lipstick (which I died for). I wanted to stop them to get a picture too, but I’d also lost the ability to speak.

It was very euphoric, actually being there, so much more than watching it online, I felt like I was in a bit of a daze afterwards. Perhaps I was high off fashion.

Watching too much Rachel Zoe leaves you saying things like 'Those shoes are MAJOR!" in everyday context. This is why I'm not ready for school.

Prada Fall 2010 Ready-to-WearLouis Vuitton Fall 2010 Ready-to-Wear

In my wildest Louis Vuitton Fall 2010 fantasies, I wear either these Prada shoes or the Louis Vuittons. Sometimes, there's a Louis on one foot and a Prada on the other.

Also, high school begins tomorrow. This is very meh because for THE FOURTH YEAR IN A ROW I have not received my Hogwarts letter. Tomorrow will be another year, watching the clock for when the Hogwarts Express leaves without me.... again.

And don't make fun of me because you know you secretly cried when you didn't get your letter.

Dear Marc Jacobs,

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your Fall 2010 ready-to-wear collection for Louis Vuitton. I can tell you quite honestly that I have never loved anything else with such intensity. It is something that we so desperately need in these times, femininity! You see, I’ve been agonizing over these ridiculous utilitarian and rock n’ roll and gothic and really just trends with no softness. It was like everyone had forgotten about the beauty in such classic glamour, about what women are supposed to look like: beautiful. It seemed for a moment there that feminine and delicacy was mistaken for weakness, while everyone stomped about in their leather pants and platform over-the-knee boots. But it’s not! You shouldn’t have to be dressed so hard and severe to be seen as strong! To the contrary, your gorgeous clothing portrays nothing if not strength in a woman! We shouldn’t have to dress like men to appear to be equal; we should dress like women and be exceedingly better! So I thank you for reminding us of that.

I also love love love love the 50’s inspiration, so ladylike. There wasn’t a skirt above the knee in that entire collection, (much less pants) yet it was so sexy without being vulgar. It highlighted the best parts of a woman, and cleverly disguised the rest. It showed women how they really are, with curves. Most of us don’t look like teenage boys, and it’s refreshing to see someone design for that part of the population.

And by the way, I also taped every single one of the 54 looks in that collection (55 if you include the photo of you on the runway) to my wall so I can stare at it for hours on end without my computer dying.

And the ad campaign is so beautiful I could cry.

Also, I love you.

Always,

Drew

dun dun dun dunnnn dun dun dun dunnnnn.... Never Mind, That Sounds Like Darth Vader's Theme Song.

Today marks the day that there are five days left until yours truly attends Parsons The New School for Design. I still have not received my course information or supply list though, and that dream of Tim Gunn is becoming more and more vivid. Speaking of which… have you seen the commercial for the new season of Project Runway? I’m very excited.

The J. Crew catalog came today. I pine for the soft Italian cashmere and knee-high leather boots, but they will come in due time. I have an excess of those already. Now, I must focus on something far more garish: feather jackets.

The glamour of this consumes me. A feather jacket such as this one would make it impossible to have a bad day, so it would be worn every day. This must sound really superficial of me, with material possessions making me happiest, and, well, I have no argument. It's true, and I enjoy every minute of it.

That, my dears, is what I call love at first sight. I wish I didn’t call everything else magnificent now, because then you would truly be able to understand my feelings towards this vest. You don’t know how many hours I have spent online shopping for this under $500. You can, however, imagine how much success I have yielded. Correct, none.

The catalog also gave me an idea. Actually, that’s not fair, It didn’t give me an idea, I stole it.

White brogues with a wedding dress! I think that they will be my shoes of choice when I marry, not that I don’t have twenty years to change my mind…

Dior to Adore

John Galliano typically makes me a very happy girl. His resort collection this year is no exception. It is a gorgeous blend of extreme femininity and the late 50's - early 60's glamour that I so adore. It also incorporates more of the masculine side of things... but I won't even touch upon that. This is simply because I desperately dreaming of dresses (unintentional alliteration.. I did learn something this year!) and I can't even stand to think of wearing anything else in this heat.

Christian Dior Resort 2011

I am reminded vividly of the proud wife and homemaker of the fifties. All frills, lipstick, and sensible heels, perfect combination. I wish I lived in that era.

Christian Dior Resort 2011

If I were to add something to this outfit it would be a large pink poodle patch. Don't ask me why or where, it just has to be there.

Christian Dior Resort 2011

If I were to be so cliché I would say that this picture here is worth a description of a thousand words... but why would I ever say that? When I can simply call it elegant and romantic and sophisticated and beautiful... I wish I wore it to 8th grade graduation.

Christian Dior Resort 2011

This is very... young, but in a good way, not like baby young, but -- youthful and full of life. It has energy.

Christian Dior Resort 2011

I love it I love it I love it. It is just ladylike and prissy in the best way imaginable.

Christian Dior Resort 2011

When I was watching this show the Spoonful of Sugar song from Mary Poppins was playing in my head, perhaps because of the sugary sweetness of many of the looks. Anyway, I can't get it out of my head now and I thought maybe I'd inflict Julie Andrew's voice on some other people!

Alexander Wang Resort Wear

I am ridiculously behind the times and it's aggravating. My computer was... um... taken away, so I haven't had the time to do any of this here blogging! Annnnd, to add insult to injury, resort wear has come out-- and I've BARELY had a chance to look at it! The injustice is seething inside me! And so I must bring it into overdrive to catch up.

You may or may not be aware of my intense love for Alexander Wang. Well, now you are, at least. It is actually more of a nerd-like obsession (similar to those who are addicted to Justin Beiber, althoughI like to think my obsession is a bit more healthy) that began last September at his show, where I was so shocked to be so close to such brilliance that I just about lost my marbles. I could've said something, but I temporarily lost speech. Ever since, I've had photos of him and his collection up in my locker. Be very disturbed.

Ah, the minimalism. Awkward fitting sweaters, leather shorts, socks with sandals. How very perfect.

Alexander Wang Resort 2011

Structured blazers have a soft spot in my heart. To pair them with long johns takes a certain kind of bravery, and I fully respect whoever has the courage to do so. In addition, I really love how he has stayed true to his ascetic with the bag.

Alexander Wang Resort 2011

I so admire how he can turn the reputation of sandals with socks (hairy men on the beach with beer bellies, anyone?) into something chic and desirable.

Alexander Wang Resort 2011

Pants nipped at the ankle are God's gift to the world. Maybe that was a tad dramatic, but I will stand by it.

I have far more to say in the matter of Resort Wear 2011...so I will be posting again-- tomorrow. That's a promise.

Little Bow Peep

Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear

This week I found I am desperately in need of an obnoxious, oversized bow- Marc Jacobs style, please. Unfortunately all that I have is a rather small Coach headscarf. (I don't even like Coach. It's not a luxury brand to me anymore because it is so common now that it can be found in any mall in America. It has lost it's fashion appeal, but I guess it's good from a business standpoint for them now. There's just no pizzazz when you see their designs on every person on the street.) And that's all I have to say about that.

and what have we here? part two

I lied. Last night I was too tired and too immersed in S.V.U. to even consider using my brain for anything at all. So, this is the continuation of my Chanel posting.

Chanel Resort 2011Chanel Resort 2011Chanel Resort 2011

Bits of my favorite part of the collection. The fabrics are so ethereally beautiful, floating in the breeze... The models remind me of smily little beach nymphs, not the angry ones that hide in the woods and bite your ears. That wouldn't be all that fun, I think. I also love the way that they don't have shoes, it's more of a foot jewelry. I would love to try to wear this lovely foot jewelry- but I wonder if it's comfortable? How would it manage to stay on? I don't think they were intended for practical use, but the styling gives it more of the resort feel, as well as the blue toe polish.

Chanel Resort 2011

I like big hats that entirely block the sun. These are especially pleasant when your skin is of the pasty type and burns easily. I have quite a bit of experience in that field, actually.

Chanel Resort 2011Chanel Resort 2011Chanel Resort 2011

It's the classic Chanel tweed, with a summer twist. I would just die if I were to be allowed to wear that beautiful jumpsuit, with the matching blazer. Die. I would, however, change the color because yellow doesn't go too well with the pasty skin mentioned earlier. Besides that, it's perfect. It is such magnificently conservative fabric, but the concept of the jumpsuit is so much more trendy and young. I absolutely adore the contrast. If I were some sort of primitive animal, I would be frothing at the mouth at the thought. Thankfully, I am a tad more sophisticated. Just a tad.

The über Greek gladiator sandals and toe rings (which I usually oppose), also truly complete the other looks.

To conclude, I love Chanel.
