I Am Still Shaking

Today was a rather major day for yours truly. I attended Alexander Wang’s fashion show, and before you get some sort of impression that I am well connected, I will tell you that the only reason I got into the show is because my dad manages the building it was held in (Pier 94). I stood, but that’s still beyond marvelous because I was there!

As I don’t have anything from Alexander Wang and it was doubtful anyone would care, I decided to go for a textural bonanza. The peacock feather headband was bought off the street in New York, I spent all my money on that faux- fur jacket from Anthropologie last week, the top is DKNY, I made the shorts, the shoes are Kenzie, and the crocodile bag is vintage.

We saw Andrew from Kell on Earth, the Bravo show about the fashion PR agency. You watched it. At first we (being my mother and I) weren’t sure it was he, but then we saw the hardware bracelets and I knew it was. He is so fabulously Goth and extremely tall. I took this photo from the back (creeper style) before I was sure he was opposed to talking to the common folk. Then I got this picture with him and my mom. He actually is surprisingly nice.

Before the show I also met Alexander Wang’s brother and the CFO of this company. Dennis. He was really polite but I couldn’t talk around him because when I’m nervous I do that, but I did shake his hand.

The show was something. I could see fairly well behind the short people that he is back to deconstruction, there were a lot of cut outs in loose white canvas dresses and pants. Bits of it reminded me of carpenter's clothes, which was helped along by the worker-esqe boots and the 'paint splatter' on both the clothes and in the hair. There were also metallics, and a few sweaters/jackets that made me very pleased. It was far happier than I thought it would be.

I didn't take proper pictures because of my view but here are the ones from the interweb.

I also just about peed myself when I saw that, directly in front of me (in the front row), was The Andre Leon Talley and Grace Coddington. Andre is so much more fabulous in person, and bigger. I swear he was over seven feet tall. Grace has this elegance to her that you can just feel, even fifteen feet away. I got these stalker shots from the back, and then my mother chased Mr. Talley, telling him that he looked gorgeous, and got this picture. I love it.

And then. The unthinkable happened. (If that was unthinkable enough for you) Just as we were walking back from the show, whom did we see but Bradley. FROM THE RACHEAL ZOE PROJECT!!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME, WORLD???? I just about died, right there. He was so so so nice to us. I, of course geeked out and couldn’t speak, except to tell him my name after I remembered, but we took this. He is so gorgeous I cannot even BEGIN to tell you.

And then, like in a movie (I keep replaying it in my head) THE RACHEL ZOE and RODGER walked up and were like “Yeah Brad, you’re so gorgeous,” because I think my mother said that to him, but I’d temporarily lost my hearing, so I’m not sure. She was wearing a baggy, navy blue jumpsuit and berry lipstick (which I died for). I wanted to stop them to get a picture too, but I’d also lost the ability to speak.

It was very euphoric, actually being there, so much more than watching it online, I felt like I was in a bit of a daze afterwards. Perhaps I was high off fashion.

Too Much of a Good Thing

Parsons is in a week!!! Be very excited. I still haven't gotten my supply list or anything, so that Tim Gunn dream is reoccurring. Now, I am at the point where I'm planning outfits for the ten days I'll be there, as I know I will be too full of nervous energy to do it every night. And each outfit will be perfect by next week. So far I have two- and I will definitely recycle them for school and such. I know it's cheating, but I'm still going to do it.

Moving on.

I find that in the summer I have a uniform. Lilly Pulitzer shorts, bright tank top, headband, sandals, charm bracelet, DONE. It's so boring I could spit up on myself. I know that the whole Lilly Pulitzer-in-the-summer thing is overplayed to the point of annoyance, yet I will continue to do it. I have these vintage shorts with fruit all over them that I can't leave alone.
The shoes are marvelous, they came into the B&B a few weeks ago. And I will be wearing them with those shorts until I'm blue in the face.

A Smashing Good Time! {pun intended.}

I was fortunate enough to be in the city on the 4th of July to watch the Macy's fireworks atop Pier 92 (my father's place of work). I intended to put the photos up earlier but I somehow found doing nothing far more pressing.

The fireworks were marvelous, even more so than on TV- and the event gave me a chance to wear some red lipstick! Not that I wouldn't have some up with one anyway.

That's my Vogue shot, in a Tory Burch top, J. Crew sunglasses, and Clinique lipstick.

There was a spectacular view of the newest, biggest cruise line, the Epic (or Epoc, as my mother calls it) from the pier. Those of us who are a bit cynical were thinking it'd be the next Titanic. Just saying.

We also went aboard the Intrepid the next day, which is really great if you're into that sort of thing. The heat on the flight deck was a bit of a magilla though. In my Little Miss Stubborn t-shirt, no-name madras skirt, and Coach sunglasses.

We also went to this lovely little French café called La Bergamote on W 52nd that has aMAZing cappuccinos and opera cake.

20 DAYS UNTIL PARSONS!!! RAH RAH RAH!!!

excuses, excuses

I haven't been able to post anything due to a combination of laziness... and yeah, just laziness. But I have these pretty dress photos all the way from Memorial Day that I've been trying unsuccessfully to upload. Eventually, Anna had to do it for me. (Thanks!) I really need to work on my computer skills, because I have absolutely no idea how to do that. It's actually rather funny.

The first one is sideways, but I don't really care because it looks far more interesting than a picture of me standing against a wall in a shop. It was in Butterflies and Zebras, a new shop on Main Street (which, as you may interpret, is the only street with shops in Ridgefield). I liked it because that dress was cute and the people told me I looked pretty- which is more than enough for me to like something.

The dress was kinda awesome because it has a mind of its own. The bottom, as you can see, holds itself up in a whirl of swirls. Hah, my poetic skills amuse even me. I did enjoy it, but I couldn't wear it now because of my ridiculous sunburn-line ( I have the skin of an albino) that is almost in the form of a necklace. Woe is me.

mini ralph? oh, how i wish.

Outfit on... Thursday? Yes, Thursday, because Friday was Harry Potter Dress Up Day. Oh yes. And I kinda really love this outfit, too.

My, I need a pedicure. Gap jean jacket, Ralph Lauren Rugby shirt, (my mother's old) Lucky Brand boyfriend jeans, old stirrup leather for belt, Prada sandals, and drugstore red lipstick.

I was channeling Ralph Lauren 2010 spring ready to wear, except my feminine twist was in the blouse annnd the shoes. For some reason, and perhaps it's because I fell in radioactive lava, (but then I would be Spiderman), but I have been so into the boyfriend jean and the denim on demim- especially if they are two different washes. It has that classic American appeal that Ralph Lauren always captures so expertly. He is an expert, after all.

Next Time I Shall Choose More Sensible Shoes

Well, I haven't really been writing a lot, considering that I had been posting 30 per month in January, so I'm going to do that some more.

Moving right along, yesterday my family and I went up to New York (not city, sadly) to look at the Storm King Sculpture Center. It's this gigantic outside museum in the middle of nowhere that displays sculptures in the woods and fields. The land itself is almost more beautiful than the art, which for me to say that, must make it nice, as I really don't appreciate nature and such too much. Even for someone who isn't a total art fanatic, the center is beautiful.

There were so very many statues just like these, everywhere you looked. I believe that they were done by the same artist--or else they were all done by artists who loved to copy each other. Not sure which. They were lovely because they looked different from every angle.

I thought that both the lake and the boat sitting on it were spectacular. I believe the boat once was practical for some type of sport in Australia, but that might be total rubbish I made up.

Like the sarcophagus of a half-giant encased in glass to protect from the nargles or something. I just liked this one.

There was some meaning to this, I remember they stopped the tram just to say it, but I don't remember so for the time being I'm just going to say it's pretty.

I found this terribly interesting, mainly because you could sit in it.

This looks like a flamingo from one angle, and then like some type of musical note from another.

The fake Easter Island head. I amused myself by pretending to pick its nose. So mature, I know.

Chocolate CAKE!!! Muahaha! I don't imagine the concrete and metal would taste all too great though...

It looks Japanese, but alas, is not.

My mother was misbehaving.

I just liked how the random rocks were strategically placed in the little meadow between the trees. It's as elegant as rocks can be.

This was my favorite because I'm still not quite sure how it works and because I really enjoyed standing under it, feeling invincible.

The view of the mountain/hills is magnificent.

It was like a little fern forest... We used to have a fern, and her name was Ferny. Then she died. Now we don't have a fern anymore.

POSING!!! Tory Burch tunic, Aqua shorts, Oakley shades, J. Crew Bag.

My mom's Hermés sandals. Let me just say that they were not the most sensible option, as we had to walk down and up hills in the forrest and this led to DIRT GETTING ON THEM. A sin of massive proportions. There is no denying that they are beautiful, though.

I have to go and kill that fly that's buzzing around my room now, it's driving me batty.

my apologies to those of you who care

Well, I haven't really posted anything in like a week, but I do have an explanation. I got that awful stomach virus on Friday so I have been reduced to watching seven hours of Law and Order straight on the floor of my basement. And as much as I love that show, you can only stare mindlessly at a screen, seeing countless vics (oh yes, I use the proper terminology, thank you very much) die violently before you begin to lose your mind.

Alrighty, so here was my outfit on Friday, when I was still well enough to get out of the house.

My mother's Vineyard Vines shirt, my own Vineyard Vines belt, J.Crew shorts, Ralph Lauren socks.

I was channeling that 50's preppy look again that I am so very obsessed with. I think buttoning the top button made it far more preppy than it was already, even with the Vineyard Vines all over, just because it looked that much nerdier. I was going to wear my fake Chinatown glasses, but I thought that would perhaps push the theme a bit too far.

I believe that I am becoming a bit too attached to those oxfords. It's getting to the point now where I wear them once a week--sometimes more. I'm worried. My infatuation with them makes me worried that I'll end up scratching them or something. That would utterly destroy me. DESTROY. I think they are my favorite shoes! This is pushing my usual limitations, as I never chose favorites for fear of hurting the other shoes' feelings. I would be petrified that the other shoes would become jealous and kill me in the dead of night, like that doll, Chucky. I've never actually seen that movie, but I get the general gist of it, anyway. This is why my closet doors must stay closed every night. Just in case they do find out I am betraying them, I doubt they are strong enough to pull open the door.

Or are they???

There is really no purpose to adding these photos, I just like that it looks like I'm defying gravity in the first one (although it's really just my laziness that caused it {I didn't feel like editing, you see}), and that in the second I look like some sort of ghost. Spooky.
