i'm only human

It has been two months and twelve days if my math is correct, but I really wouldn't count on it being correct. Note the lack of the word "so". I've noted that I say "so" so much that even I find it intolerable. And it's always at the beginning of my sentences. Why??? Did the "so" aliens get into my head at birth, and somehow distort my brain so that I cannot properly formulate a sentence without the use of the word "so"???

I think I have become stranger in the past two months and twelve days just because of how quickly those thoughts came to me.

You may know of my pre-existing bias to Margiela (whose name, by the way, took me the whole of two weeks to learn to say properly) because he was the designer I was assigned at Parsons, but I find this so luxurious I just want to eeep. I love velvet. I love it. And this looks as though it's a velvet jumpsuit. Just, yes. I even like the face that the model is wearing, like she is just above everyone else, which, while she certainly is literally, she also is because that look makes her ooze elegance. No, not even, it's like she's swimming in elegance, if elegance was in fact a noun.

Marc Jacobs which I've basically been trying to base my entire life off of because it is so perfect that when I first saw it I was actually left unable to speak. And even still when I try to describe my feelings for it all that comes out is incomprehensible mumbling. The other day I was bored and watching too many 30 Rock reruns so instead I printed out and pasted all 57 of the looks from this show on index cards which I can now carry around with me always.

Don't judge me.

Watching too much Rachel Zoe leaves you saying things like 'Those shoes are MAJOR!" in everyday context. This is why I'm not ready for school.

In my wildest Louis Vuitton Fall 2010 fantasies, I wear either these Prada shoes or the Louis Vuittons. Sometimes, there's a Louis on one foot and a Prada on the other.

Also, high school begins tomorrow. This is very meh because for THE FOURTH YEAR IN A ROW I have not received my Hogwarts letter. Tomorrow will be another year, watching the clock for when the Hogwarts Express leaves without me.... again.

And don't make fun of me because you know you secretly cried when you didn't get your letter.

Dear Marc Jacobs,

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your Fall 2010 ready-to-wear collection for Louis Vuitton. I can tell you quite honestly that I have never loved anything else with such intensity. It is something that we so desperately need in these times, femininity! You see, I’ve been agonizing over these ridiculous utilitarian and rock n’ roll and gothic and really just trends with no softness. It was like everyone had forgotten about the beauty in such classic glamour, about what women are supposed to look like: beautiful. It seemed for a moment there that feminine and delicacy was mistaken for weakness, while everyone stomped about in their leather pants and platform over-the-knee boots. But it’s not! You shouldn’t have to be dressed so hard and severe to be seen as strong! To the contrary, your gorgeous clothing portrays nothing if not strength in a woman! We shouldn’t have to dress like men to appear to be equal; we should dress like women and be exceedingly better! So I thank you for reminding us of that.

I also love love love love the 50’s inspiration, so ladylike. There wasn’t a skirt above the knee in that entire collection, (much less pants) yet it was so sexy without being vulgar. It highlighted the best parts of a woman, and cleverly disguised the rest. It showed women how they really are, with curves. Most of us don’t look like teenage boys, and it’s refreshing to see someone design for that part of the population.

And by the way, I also taped every single one of the 54 looks in that collection (55 if you include the photo of you on the runway) to my wall so I can stare at it for hours on end without my computer dying.

And the ad campaign is so beautiful I could cry.

Also, I love you.

Always,

Drew

SCANDAL ALERT

Just so you are aware, this is going to read a bit like a bad gossip column. I was just, well, intrigued by some articles on one of our favorite designers today. Not Karl, nor John, but Marc. It appears that his love life has fallen to shambles-- or at least that is what is portrayed in the "gatecrasher" article. But then, this was in The Daily News, which I doubt can be trusted for accuracy. Isn't it the very same newspaper that occasionally puts "Mother Spots Martians on Front Porch, Invasion is Expected" on their front page? Or was that a comic book? I can't be sure.

Back to my story.

So it is claimed that Marc's boyfriend, Lorenzo Martone, was caught snogging another man at the birthday party of Wilhelmina CEO Sean Patterson. Incidentally, a man with a girlfriend. As you can imagine, this caused a bit of a ruckus.

So when Marc won the CDFA Award on Monday night, (along with Alexander Wang {yay}) and gave his speech thanking all those who helped him along his way to greatness, Mr. Lorenzo wasn't mentioned. It only makes sense that there is a correlation between the two events, because why else wouldn't he mention the man he's been with for, what, three years?

It appears it's the doghouse for old Lorenzo, and justly so. You don't cheat on the most visionary designer of our age! It's ridiculous! The entire story has yet to be confirmed, but I enjoyed the drama just the same.

Little Bow Peep

Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear

This week I found I am desperately in need of an obnoxious, oversized bow- Marc Jacobs style, please. Unfortunately all that I have is a rather small Coach headscarf. (I don't even like Coach. It's not a luxury brand to me anymore because it is so common now that it can be found in any mall in America. It has lost it's fashion appeal, but I guess it's good from a business standpoint for them now. There's just no pizzazz when you see their designs on every person on the street.) And that's all I have to say about that.
